Dan Jacobson of Southland Blues Magazine first conceived the battle of the blues harps show in 1987. Since its inception, the “Harp Battle” has become a So Cal Thanksgiving Eve tradition and has featured an amazing list of blues legends.
After putting on the show for 26 years, Dan Jacobson decided it was time to hand the reins over to Scott Abeyta of Rip Cat Records in order to concentrate on his career as an impressionist/singer/entertainer. Having two years under his belt, Scott is breathing new life into this So Cal tradition.
Last year’s show was moved to the Queen Mary as an attempt to raise the quality and freshen the venue. Although the show was a resounding success, the Queen Mary had some issues that would make it not the ideal place to continue holding this event. The feed back from the fans was that the parking was expensive and insufficient, the food and drink prices were too high, and the dance floor was too small. It is for these reasons that we are once again moving the venue to the Gaslamp in Long Beach, which is right next door to our original location; the Golden Sail Hotel.
This year’s show will have plenty of free parking, great food and drinks, rooms available at the Golden Sails Hotel and as always an amazing line-up!
